I’m a less than faithful updater anyway when it comes to websites, but I’ve posted less than usual since April. Real life has simply been strange as of late, and I have been devoting most of my spare time to other things. I haven’t even been frequenting old stomping grounds like YouTube and Yahoo! as much as I have in the past. Nonetheless, I recently renewed this domain name, so I’ve every intention of keeping the site alive.
Well, the site is back. As you may have already noticed, some things have changed. Drastically. First and foremost, PostNuke has been scrapped in exchange for WordPress. So far, WordPress kicks ass, but we’ll see if this continues. The other major change is the removal of old articles that no longer apply to my philosophy. What’s left has been placed in PDF format in the LessGov Archive for your perusal.
After going through two incarnations of PHP-Nuke (one of which was hacked) and then a mostly-pleasant experience with PostNuke (until the rampant spamming and database corruption which necessitated this most recent change), I’ve decided that I’m tired of restoring MySQL tables and records and trying to juggle screwed-up timestamps by the dozens. As such, any future crashes will result in another clean slate, with articles up to the crash point archived as PDF files. This is by far the easiest thing to do. Hopefully, my first impression of WordPress will hold true, and I can actually keep this format for more than a year or so.
Anyway, here’s an overview of the new features.
- The aforementioned LessGov Archive, where old articles can be downloaded.
- A calendar in the right sidebar, highlighting days on which new posts have been made.
- A list of my Pandora radio stations (also in the right sidebar), illustrating just how strange my taste in music is.
- A new search feature native to WordPress (note that this will not search the PDF archive, so it will take a while for the post count to make the search function worthwhile).
- A new About page.
- A streamlined links sections (right sidebar again). Contact me if you’re interested in a trade.
- A new overall design that, in my opinion, is much cleaner and easier to use than the previous PostNuke style.
The only real bad news is that none of the old PostNuke user accounts will carry over to the new WordPress system. So . . . sorry about that. Nevertheless, despite getting an average of 700 to 1,000 views per week over the last year, comments have been sparse, to say the least, so the loss isn’t quite as dire as it might sound. If you’d like to register again, feel free to do so by clicking here. The anti-spam measures in WordPress are also superior to those in PostNuke, so if you post a comment that doesn’t appear immediately, it’s because comments are set for approval. Don’t worry — if it’s not spam, it will be approved.
And that’s about it. I apologize for the delay in getting everything back in order. As always, thanks for visiting.
